Security chief Chris Tang receives scam call

Secretary for Security Chris Tang said on Thursday he received a scam call from someone posing as a Security Bureau officer, and that he challenged the caller to find him in his own office. In a video posted on social media, Tang said the caller told him he had "violated mainland laws" and ordered him to report to the 10th floor of the government headquarters for identity verification. The minister asked the caller which section of the bureau the caller belonged to, and told him he was already on the 10th floor – and invited the caller to come and find him. Tang stressed that the Security Bureau would never call members of the public to demand they assist with investigations, much less ask for money transfers. He warned that such calls, which impersonate government departments, are invariably attempts to extract personal data or demand payments. "Stay vigilant, and do not fall for it," he said.
